Charleston's Old City JailFriday the 13th No Jinx for Exhibit at Charleston's Old City Jail

South Carolina on Canvas, an art exhibit inspired by endangered landmarks in SC featuring works by Honor Marks and June Pitts Neely will premiere at Charleston, SC's Old City Jail on Fri., Oct. 13. The exhibit will continue for several days through Oct. 15.

The exhibit, featuring oil & watercolor paintings, drawings, and photographs, was inspired by a single sketching trip to Childsbury, a colonial settlement dating from 1707 slated for housing development in Berkeley County, SC. One sketching afternoon blossomed into seven months of weekly painting trips devoted to exploring and documenting the thirty-seven most endangered historic sites in South Carolina.

Marks and Neely are professional artists with growing acclaim in the Lowcountry. Marks, the artist-in-residence at the School of the Building Arts, has been selected for numerous juried exhibitions including the 2000 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition. Neely's paintings have appeared in galleries from Summerville to Charleston and during Charleston artwalks.
