Cheryl Newby Gallery in Pawleys Island, SC, Presents Works by Kathy Metts

The Cheryl Newby Gallery in Pawleys Island, SC, will present an exhibition of works by Georgetown, SC, artist Kathy Metts. Island Whimsy, will be on exhibit from Oct. 13 through Nov. 9. Approximately twenty-four paintings will be on view at the Newby Gallery. Metts is known for her singular style of whimsically portrayed beach houses and images of lowcountry habitats bathed in color.

Metts, a native of Burlington, NC, is a 1976 graduate of the UNC-Greensboro where she received a BA in Art. She is a member of the SC Watercolor Society, and the Georgetown Watercolor Society. Her paintings have been selected for juried competitions throughout SC and have won numerous awards.

Each year since 1997, Mett's paintings have been included in the prestigious Friends of Brookgreen Gardens Curator's Auction, a part of the Friends Gala held annually at Brookgreen Gardens. Recently her work was chosen to be exhibited at Brookgreen Garden's Southern Living Cottage. Metts served as the Executive Director of the Cultural Council of Georgetown County from 1998 until July 2001 when she resigned to paint full-time. She is represented by the Cheryl Newby Gallery.
