Summit One Gallery Opening in Highlands, NC

Oct. 20 marks the opening and inaugural exhibition of the Summit One Gallery in Highlands, NC. The Summit One Gallery will represent emerging and well established artists and studio craftsmen from across the country and abroad. Edward Rice (Augusta, GA) and Carl Blair (Greenville, SC) are among the artists represented. The Summit One Gallery is located on the Cashiers Road between Highlands and Cashiers, NC.

The inaugural exhibition, on view from Oct. 20 through Nov. 17, will feature artist Christian Thee (Columbia, SC) and craftsman Charles Roberts (Conyers, GA). Christian Thee was born in Long Branch, NJ, and raised in SC. He attended the University of SC and studied painting under Edmund Yajhan. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York City with Lester Polakov, where he focused his career on Stage Design. Thee became a member of Local 829, the Scenic Designers and Artists of America, painting and designing for the stage. It was during this time that his technique for "Trompe L'oeil" became defined.

Thee's first New York exhibition was at David Mann's Bodley Gallery. Since that time, his paintings have been included in many permanent collections of museums and corporate collections across the country. His many private commissions include being asked by the Royal Family to paint Prince Andrew's portrait for his twenty-first birthday. Stateside, he has painted the orientation gallery for the Columbia Museum of Art (Columbia, SC), Trump's Taj Mahal Hotel (Atlantic City, NJ), the New York residence of Joan Rivers and many others. His biographical listings include "Architectural Painting, Sensuous Places, No Place Like Home, The Guild, Vol. 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, Modern Murals, The Grand Illusion, Trompe L'oeil in the Home, and Who's Who in America, 50th Anniversary Edition."

After thirty-five years in the New York Metropolitan area Christian Thee currently makes his residence and studio in Columbia, SC.

Charles Roberts' training began as a child in his father's workshop, from him he learned selection, turning and forming of wood and metal. His undergraduate education is primarily in engineering, with additional studies in art. It is from this background that he has been able to devote himself to his art as well as become a patent holding inventor. His artwork includes wood boxes, trays, turnings, metalwork, stained glass and is recognized for the unique designs, the detail, and precision.

Roberts is a member of the American Craft Council, the National Association of Independent Artist, and the Woodworkers' Guild of GA. His work has won many awards and honors in competitive shows and is collected internationally.

Summit One Gallery is located at 4152 Cashiers Road (Hwy. 64) between Highlands and Chasiers, NC.
