Gallery 80808 in Columiba, SC, offers works by Robert Allison, Pat Callahan, & Brad Holiday

Gallery 80808 in Columbia, SC, presents, Go Figure. An exhibition of figurative works: sculpture by Robert Allison, drawings by Pat Callahan, and black and white photographs by Brad Holiday. The exhibition continues through Nov. 5.

Robert Allison was introduced to sculpture during visits to Brookgreen Gardens, in his native state of South Carolina. This influence is seen today in his love for realistic sculpture and attention to details. In Allison's bronze and terra cottas, he tries to capture the emotions and imagination of the beholder. "I am inspired by the beauty that surrounds me and strive to recreate it. There is so much ugliness in the world today why should we, the artists, indulge in it." His works can be seen in galleries from New York to the coast of South Carolina. Recent South Carolina commissions include life-size works for the Children's Hospital of Palmetto Richland, Columbia; a firefighter, honoring the Summerville, SC and FDNY firefighters and a monument commemorating the life of South Carolinian, Felix "Doc" Blanchard; Heisman winner (WestPoint) and decorated Air Force veteran (Vietnam).

Trained as a graphic artist, Pat Callahan works in digital realm for the University of South Carolina Press. As an artist, she turns to classical media-charcoal and ink-and subject-the nude. She is enthralled by the body's sensuousness and power. in her drawings, Callahan strives to capture what she sees: "a form defined by light; a figure of muscle and mass; a nude, ever-evocative; and an individual ". Callahan's drawings have been in a number ofjuried exhibitions in South Carolina and in She: A Celebration of Women and Art.

Brad Holiday's photographic endeavors began at an early age. He cultivated his interest by interning under the guidance of local commercial photographers and one of the southeast's premiere portrait photographers. Holiday's interest in photographing the human figure comes from his ten-year career in the medical field. He is fascinated by how the body's systems function. Holiday has also been influenced by such greats as Avedon, Steiglitz, Doisneau, and Ansel Adams. While their subjects were as diverse as they were, their images were created using a "simple" formula. Working predominately in black and white, Holiday chooses simple backgrounds to allow the subject to be the entire focus. His travels to Italy and throughout the US have given him a unique insight to his subject matter. In his figurative photographs, "the texture and shadows created show the beautiful landscape that is our body."
