North Charleston City Gallery in North Charleston, SC, Features Works by Anita Blewer and Susan Finch Stevens

The City of North Charleston's Cultural Arts Department will present the works of two local visual artists, Anita Blewer of North Charleston and Susan Finch Stevens of the Isle of Palms, during the month or Oct., 2002, at the North Charleston City Gallery in North Charleston, SC.

Blewer's exhibit entitled Diversity In Oil and Mixed Media includes a masterful expression of Lowcountry marshes and woodlands, as well as works in collage. Her collage entitled, "Nature Series Two, took the First Place Award at the Piccolo Spoleto 2001 Outdoor Artists Exhibition. "Painting is an adventure for me and is a continuous learning experience" says Blewer. This memorable lady is pleased to have her works included in local, national and international collections.

Susan Finch Stevens is a photographic artist of rare quality, the title of her exhibit will be Poems Seen. Stevens became interested in photography as a journalism student in the mid-seventies. Over the years her photographs have evolved to include images rendered through alternative printing processes, handcoloring, and the transferring of image onto artist's papers and fabrics. Recognizing a kinship between poetry and still photography, she uses the camera to acknowledge the visual poetry she encounters in life. Whether using light to compose a photograph or language to compose a poem, she strives to capture both the essence of the subject and her own experience of that subject. She has a BA degree in journalism from USC and a master of education degree in counseling from the Citadel. She is the current year's Poet In Residence at the Gibbes Museum of Art in downtown Charleston, SC.
