Lump Gallery/Projects in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Chicago-Based Art Collective

Lump gallery/projects in Raleigh, NC, is very pleased to present PORTOTONIC, an exhibition featuring the Chicago-based art collective Tactonic. The exhibition will run from Oct. 1 - 31, 2004.

Chicago-based art collective Tactonic takes their show on the road with PORTOTONIC, a collection of portable artworks showcasing their unique approach to interactive installation. Old suitcases open to reveal remote-controlled animatronics, nomadic living structures, and postmodern zoetropes.

"This show centers on themes of travel, displacement, and nomadism," said Tactonic member Joshua Rosenstock. "We explored these ideas not only in the content of our work, but also in their presentation. We created pieces that are fully portable and can be rapidly deployed. As a group, we are committed to the ideal that art should exist not only in galleries, but be able to function in a variety of settings."

Huong Ngo (NC Native), Joshua Rosenstock, and Matthew Steinke (NC born) collaborate as Tactonic, a collective they began as MFA students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Their work combines recycled materials, a love of low-technology, and an interest in social interactions.
