The Garden Gallery in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Madonna Phillips, Marriott Procter Little, and Margaret Brunson Hill

The Garden Gallery in Raleigh, NC, will present the work of Raleigh artists Madonna Phillips, Marriott Procter Little, and Margaret Brunson Hill in a special exhibit beginning on Oct. 9 and continuing through Nov. 15, 2005.

Madonna Phillips

Madonna Phillips, who creates her art in Studio 204 at Artspace in downtown Raleigh, is well known for her mixed-media constructions that explore such subjects as fashion, politics, and pop culture. She is also an accomplished painter. Her award-winning work has been exhibited in galleries and special venues throughout the United States, including the Smithsonian Craft Show. She is a member of Piedmont Craftsmen of Winston-Salem, NC, and Carolina Designer Craftsmen based in Raleigh. In 2002, Sean Kelly of Grand Arts in Kansas City, MO, selected her work as one of "North Carolinas most innovative artists."

Marriott Procter Little

Marriott Procter Little, who holds a degree in art history from Duke University, has been a professional artist for 30 years and has won numerous awards in watercolor, oil, pastel, and acrylic on canvas. There's Something About Red, an exhibition of her foray into abstract acrylic paintings, was recently featured in Artspace's Upfront Gallery. Her work is also part of corporate and private collections throughout the states and abroad.

Margaret Brunson Hill is best known for her oil, watercolor, and acrylic still life and landscape paintings, the latter of which she usually creates on location as she travels. A former student of Raleigh artists Joe Cox and Ben Williams, Hill has participated in a number of two-person shows in North Carolina and New York, and her work has been accepted in numerous juried show, including the NC Museum of Art's Artist Exhibition, The NC Watercolor Society Exhibit, and the Raleigh Fine Arts Exhibit. She has also participated in a number of two-person shows both in North Carolina and New York.

Why assemble these artists for a special show? "I chose these three artists because they're constantly evolving," said Garden Gallery owner and art collector Mary Jo Bell, "and they are very serious about their work. I see so many 'Sunday painters.'"

With 2000-square-feet of exhibition space, The Garden Gallery features contemporary art in a wide range of prices by some of North Carolina's finest artists, along with select pieces by artists from California, New York and Arizona.
