Upstate Visual Arts Moves to New Location in Greenville, SC

Upstate Visual Arts (UVA) is pleased to announce the relocation of its gallery, office, and school to 701 Pendleton Street in Greenville, SC. With a steadily growing membership (nearly 500 members) and a host of new activities, Upstate Visual Arts, a non-profit arts organization, had long outgrown its old facilities at 630 South Main Street. Elisabeth Boyle serves as President of Upstate Visual Arts. "From a long list of many buildings and locations considered, the UVA building committee determined that 701 Pendleton Street was the best choice," said Boyle. "This location, with more room and better parking, enables us to better serve our members."

To officially inaugurate its new home, Upstate Visual Arts will host a Grand Opening on Oct. 7, 2005. People are invited to view UVA's new home, a charming, two-story brick house. Classes will be taught on the upper floor, where the large windows let in plenty of natural light. The lower floor will serve as gallery and office space. "I absolutely LOVE the 'new' (old) building," said Liz Daly-Korybski, a UVA Member Artist and owner of Daly Designs. "I could feel the creative juices starting to flow within seconds of walking into the first classroom," she continued. "The hardwood floors and large windows are beautiful and charming (and) the downstairs is going to be a fabulous gallery area."

Upstate Visual Arts began in 1987 with the following mission: to enhance the quality of life within the community by elevating the stature of visual art and educating the public to its significance. Since then, the organization has grown to produce many large exhibitions and smaller exhibits throughout the year, including the annual Art in the Park festival and exhibits at the Commerce Club and the GSP International Airport. UVA exhibitions, festivals and forums involve artists of all media, from sculpture to ceramics, from watercolor to film. Upstate Visual Arts also operates the UVA School of Art, which offers over 50 different classes each year.

The facilities at 701 Pendleton will allow UVA to expand its class offerings as well as create a more inviting office, gallery, and meeting space for UVA activities. Drew Fields serves on the Upstate Visual Arts Board of Directors. "Pendleton Street is becoming Greenville's newest artist district," Fields said. "We are thrilled to be a part of it."
