Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, Features Works by Linda Kirsten Cole

The Art League of Hilton Head (formerly the Hilton Head Art League) on Hilton Head Island, SC, is presenting the exhibit, I Dream in Color, featuring acrylic paintings by Beaufort, SC, artist Linda Kirsten Cole. The exhibit will be on view in the Art League Gallery of Hilton Head through Oct. 21, 2006.

Cole's exhibition includes figurative paintings, landscapes and florals. The artist has just returned from a trip to France and England, and several of the works in the show were inspired by these travels. "Painting is a lifelong trip," says Cole, "and we never seem to reach our destination, but oh, what we learn along the way." Her vibrant paintings are inspired by the light and landscapes that surround us.

Cole says of her work, "What a wonderful feeling it is for me to take a blank white canvas and create a place for the viewer to go. The subject has to move me to a place I want to be, if not, the painting fails." As an experienced artist, Cole knows that a good painting begins with good design. In addition, color, light and shadow are very important, and over the years, she has come to respect the power of color to impact the viewer. As a result, she exaggerates color and contrast in her paintings, drawing the viewer into the depth of the painting. "I have to feel that I have created an emotion and set a mood."

Originally from New York, Cole now resides on Lady's Island in Beaufort. She grew up in a family of artists; her father and brother are successful landscape painters. She has taught workshops, produced over 100 commissioned works and her paintings are owned by several corporations and the Kennedy family. Her work can be seen in the region at the Left Bank Gallery on St. Simon's Island, GA, the Indigo Gallery and Craftseller in downtown Beaufort, and the Art League Gallery of Hilton Head.
