Two New Art Galleries open at Pawley's Island, SC

Bernie Horton, Betsy Havens and Jim Calk, nationally known painters, have opened two new galleries at the Village Shops, Pawleys Island, SC, on Hwy. 17, just south of the Pawley's Island Hammock Shops.

The galleries are in a beach style bungalow with a porch nestled under a giant oak tree. Enter across the porch into splendid and simple spaces which serve the two galleries. The white walls and the honey colored oak floors welcome the viewer as do the myriad of very interesting paintings.

First, enter the Bernie Horton Gallery and view his stunning paintings of the coastal marshes and waters, trees, and open vistas. Walk down a path with the sand between your toes as you view his beautiful scenes of the beach. Let your eyes rest on views that are so compelling one feels the air and the breeze. Horton is collected by many people across the United States. His work can be viewed in many art publications but also visit here in this gallery to see the beauty for yourself.

Then one enters the gallery of Betsy Havens and Jim Calk, husband and wife painters. Calk paints gorgeous paintings in an impressionistic poetic style: the rivers of the coast, the beaches, the sunsets and moonrises, and lagoons. He also paints still life paintings of flowers, such as hydrangea and cherry blossoms in interesting vases with peaches, grapes and intertwined pearls.

Havens is a figurative painter, often choosing the subject matter of the American lowcountry and its people, the shrimpers, basket weavers, and street scenes painted with great emotion and color. The couple's travels throughout the world give them vast inspiration for paintings of the people, the land, and the architecture.

Truly, you will cherish your visits to these two galleries and will want to come time and time again to see what these three gifted painters are exhibiting.
