Bluewood Gallery in Brevard, NC, Features Works by Susan Stanton
Bluewood Gallery in Brevard, NC, will present the exhibit, A Structured Past: The Barns and Cabins of North Carolina, featuring photographic works by Susan Stanton, on view from Oct. 10 through Nov. 17, 2008.
The exhibit will focus on the barns and cabins
of North Carolinathose structures that epitomize the simple, rustic
life of Western North Carolina. Many of these structures
are not being repaired and when they go down, they are gone for
good. Stanton has made a point of trying to capture a good cross-section
of these structures for posterity.
"My goal is to capture the 'essence' of the scene to place the viewer at the scene visually, emotionally and spiritually and evoke a remembrance of a simpler time. I hope to transport you back to a different world through this collection of barns, cabins, churches and mercantiles."
Stanton is a professional photographer who specializes in photography of the southern Appalachians. Regionally her work has appeared on the covers of Carolina Arts, The Laurel of Asheville and The Laurel of Highlands magazines. Her images have appeared within the pages of Our State, the Asheville Citizen-Times and Rapid River publications.
Stanton's work has been displayed at the Biltmore Estate, the Asheville Art Council, Henderson County Arts Council, Black Mountain Center for the Arts, Pack Place in Asheville, the Cradle of Forestry and the Transylvania Arts Council among other venues. She is the founder of the Southern Appalachian Photographers Guild, sits on the steering committee of F/32 Photography Group of Asheville and is a member of the Carolina Nature Photographers Association (CNPA) and the Land of Waterfalls Camera Club. She is a regular contributing artist at Bluewood Gallery.
