Kensington-Stobart Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Peggy Duncan

The Kensington-Stobart Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present new works by featured artist, Peggy Duncan, on view from Oct. 3 through Nov. 14, 2008.

Duncan offered the following about her exhibit, "Having lived the last 28 years of my life in the South Carolina Lowcountry area in general and most particularly in the once sleepy village of Bluffton, SC, I feel somewhat qualified to portray what I know and love most about the area in this series of paintings."

"I choose to paint the landscape because it is what drew me to the area in the first place. I believe everyone who sees this place falls for it. Although those who come here now find a totally changed environment and some do not understand or seem to even know sometimes what has been lost."

"Using bright color and bold strokes to describe the form and movement of the subject I work to portray my personal feeling of the scene. Although painting from the natural world, my subject matter is recognizable but not necessarily realistic or what you might see if you looked at the same scene alongside me as I painted. I am attracted to the way light and shadow play off each other and how atmosphere engulfs an object and diffuses that object. Color excites me and the painting may change many times over the course of the process. As I start painting I may have a vision of what the final rendering will look like finished. Something totally different may emerge by the end."

"I now live in the mountains of Western North Carolina in 2006 and own and operate two galleries in my new hometown of Bryson City, NC, The Artists' House Studio & Gallery, and The Artists' House Too. I continue to paint the low country as well as the high country and my works are sold through several galleries in the South as well as my own."
