Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Maggie Hoybach, Morgan Kuhn, and Susan Colwell

Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, is presenting the exhibit, From Charleston and Provence with Love, featuring works by Maggie Hoybach, Morgan Kuhn, and Susan Colwell, on view through Oct. 31, 2008.

Margaret Hoybach

Years ago Maggie Hoybach fell in love with the people and places of Provence, France, each year returning, feeling instantly at home in that region. Local families became her friends and in 2002 she wrote and illustrated a popular memoir that captured the essence of the locale and of her visits.

Morgan Kuhn

As a young woman, Morgan Kuhn lived in Fontainebleau, France, for almost 2 years and has taken every opportunity to return. The vistas, the architecture, the people, the culture, all combine to make France a favorite place of hers.

Susan Colwell

Susan Colwell has visited France several times especially while she was living in Switzerland and was eager to return to the Provence region to paint daily without the rush of a set schedule.

During the spring of 2007, these three remarkable women traveled together from Charleston to Provence, setting aside 3 weeks to paint, refresh, and immerse themselves in one of the most beautiful areas in the world. While sharing good food and great wine, each day these friends painted, sketched and photographed the unbelievable vistas that surrounded their farmhouse and charming village of Roussillon. Fields of flowers were commonplace and a phone signal was rare. Their neighbors regularly welcomed them for supper and they enjoyed truly the best of the local French cuisine. Somehow the light seemed brighter, the colors clearer, and the painting easier while there.

These artists join in presenting paintings of Provence and of Charleston, our own beautiful city of great suppers, fabulous views and abundant flowers.
