City of North Charleston in North Charleston, SC, Features Works by Luiz Galvao and Deborah Meyer

The City of North Charleston in North Charleston, SC, will present the exhibits, Art with Pencils, featuring works by Luiz Galvao and Lowcountry Life: As Nature is Presented, featuring works by Deborah Meyer. Both exhibits will be on view from Oct. 1 - 30, 2009, at the North Charleston Arts Gallery located at the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston.

Although he began his career as an educator in the engineering field, Luiz Galvao's later careers as a Design Engineer and Technical Illustrator led him to discover his talent and passion for art. In his exhibition, Art with Pencils, he presents landscapes, still life, and portraits using graphite, charcoal, and colored pencils. The simplicity of his medium allows Galvao to thoroughly explore light, shadow, and texture in his compositions. Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Luiz now resides in Greer, SC, and is a member of the Artist Guild of Spartanburg, SC, and the Colored Pencil Society of America.

Deborah Meyer's exhibition, titled Lowcountry Life: As Nature is Presented, features oil and watercolor pieces inspired by a lifetime of observing nature and the beauty of the Carolina Lowcountry. Meyer received a Bachelor in Fine Art from the University of Western Ontario and Windsor University. Originally from Toronto, Canada, she now resides in Mount Pleasant, SC.

The Cultural Arts Department is the recipient of the 2000 Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award for the Arts and receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, SC Arts Commission, and the corporate community.
