The Mahler in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Tom Grubb

The Mahler in Raleigh, NC, will present the exhibit, Tom Grubb: Celestial Passages- A Journey through Time and Space, featuring Bamboo sculptures and mixed media collage constructions based on his exploration of time and space, on view from Oct. 2 - 31, 2009.

In his art, Grubb seeks to create pieces that can be admired by a variety of eyes. For the observer familiar with star charts and space perception there are hidden details and intricacies for the skilled eye to admire. However, for those who are merely observing from a surface level, they can appreciate the textures, mixed mediums, and interesting use of rare objects. Grubb seeks to meet people where they are.

Grubb attended Appalachian State University and graduated in 1970 with degrees in Political Science and History. In 1983, he received a Master of Fine Arts from East Carolina University. He has been the Executive Director of the Fayetteville Museum of Art since 1990, and prior to that he was the interim director and artist-in-residence at the Museum. He has been, and continues to be, a driving force for change within the Fayetteville community.

Grubb has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career including a North Carolina Visual Artist Fellowship from the Arts Council of North Carolina; an Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County emerging artist grant; a Southern Arts Federation/NEA regional fellowship for sculpture; National Endowment for the Arts grant recipient for sculpture; and he created Sprint Voyager, for the Festival of Flight in 2003.

The Mahler is a dynamic new fine art gallery located in downtown Raleigh in the historic and newly renovated Mahler Building on Fayetteville Street. The Mahler is dedicated to significant art of our time, committed to offering the best in regional and national fine art by emerging and established artists.
