Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Drew Mash and Jody Danner Walker

Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, is presenting a two-person exhibit of intaglio prints by Drew Mash, and cast glass record albums, entitled Sound Affects by Jody Danner Walker, on view through Oct. 30, 2010.

Drew Mash

Drew Mash's prints contain imagery of birds, birdwings, and feathers. She studied printmaking and French at Wake Forest University and received her BA in studio art in 2007. Upon graduation she received the King Award for her "Amazing Grace" series. Mash's work is part of several private collections including the permanent art collection at Wake Forest University.

Jody Danner Walker

Jody Danner Walker's work is inspired by vintage record albums and musical experiences from her youth. From 50's jazz to Woodstock, to hours spent practicing piano and guitar, this autobiographical show harnesses the power of music to create a series of cast glass record albums.

Walker's artistic process begins by adapting traditional printmaking techniques and applying them to the contemporary medium of kiln-formed glass. After painstakingly creating an image and transferring it to sheet glass, She fires her pieces in a kiln at temperatures of 1500F or higher. After several firings, a finished cast glass "record album" emerges from the kiln.

Walker was exhibited in a 2008-9 juried show at the Smithsonian Institution, is currently exhibited at the Corning Museum of Glass and is consistently included in the prestigious annual auction for Dale Chihuly's Pilchuck Glass School. Her glass art is featured in four books published this year: Best of American Glass Artists, Art Glass Today, Creative Glass and Contemporary Fused Glass. She teaches advanced classes on kiln-formed glass at The Corning Museum of Glass, The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, universities, and private studios around the world, and, in her studio, Warm Glass Gallery and Studio, in Clemmons, NC. Walker's book, Printmaking Techniques on Kiln Glass, will be released in spring 2011. Her art can be found in galleries, private, and corporate collections around the world.
