Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Martha Worthy

Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC, is presenting the exhibit, å, featuring mixed media paintings on canvas by Martha Worthy, on view through Oct. 30, 2011.

The exhibit highlights Worthy’s impressions of birds and other elements of the natural world. She adds her own interpretation through layers of color, carved textures and collage. Close inspection reveals unusual materials, bits of mica and silk threads, along with Chinese pictographs on handmade paper.

Nina Liu, the gallery’s owner, observes that the rich textures and luminous surface treatment of the paintings are of particular interest.

Worthy has maintained a studio on Hilton Head Island, SC, for 30 years after completing a BFA degree at the University of Georgia. Her work has been featured in Southern Living and Coastal Living magazines, along with numerous shows and awards.

Nina Liu and Friends is celebrating its 25th anniversary as a gallery in Charleston this year.
