Caldwell Arts Council in Lenoir, NC, Features Annual Competition

The Caldwell Arts Council in Lenoir, NC, will present the 37th Annual Caldwell Visual Artists Competition, featuring artwork by more than 30 artists in competition for cash awards totaling $650, on view from Oct. 4 - 25, 2013. A reception will be held on Oct. 4, from 5-7pm, hosted by Brush & Palette Club. Awards will be announced at about 6pm.

Recognizing Caldwell County artists whose medium includes 2 and 3-dimensional art, the Caldwell Arts Council invites the public to enjoy an exciting show by our local artists. The show, always a favorite among gallery attendees, will include a wide variety of styles and media. Much of the artwork will be available for purchase.

This year’s judges are Lenoir artists and instructors Thomas Thielemann and Lynda Lea Bonkemeyer. Thielemann and Bonkemeyer met as graduate students working on their MFA at Radford University in Virginia (yes, Virginia is for Lovers). They spent their first year of marital bliss in Atlanta GA, living in a Midtown apartment the size of a shoe (but with very attractive shoelaces). On Dec. 31, 1999 they quietly snuck into the town of Lenoir, an hour or two before Y2K (no, it was not the end of the world as we knew it) and they have lived there ever since. They share a private studio with their dog, Romare (yes, after Romare Bearden) and have been represented by several galleries around the Southeast. Together, they are raising their very charismatic son Auguste, who has put their heads on the moon (thus, their studio is called “Moonhead Studio.”)

This project is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.
