The Art Institute of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Jason Smith

Jason Smith, a free-lance photographer and 7th-quarter Graphic Design student at The Art Institute of Charlotte, in Charlotte, NC, has enjoyed almost unlimited "behind the scenes" access at NASCAR races this past year.

His photographs from the racing year will be on display at The Art Institute of Charlotte Gallery during Jan. and Feb., 2005.

"As a photographer I look to capture the spirit of racing, the spirit of competition, the highs of winning and the fight to stay in the race," Smith said. "I strive to capture not just the image of racing but the essence of every member of the team.  There is a fighting spirit to be the best, and just as a photographer uses his mind, eye and hand, the teamwork between all parts must be on every week.  I hope to draw the viewer into the art and allow them to truly experience what an event a race is."

Mike Watson, Gallery Curator, said, "The upcoming NASCAR photography exhibition will highlight works by Smith, and his work in the race industry and will allow the gallery and The Art Institute of Charlotte to recognize NASCAR racing, a North Carolina institution."
