Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Anna Ferri

Nina Liu and Friends celebrates the New Year with an exhibition of work by Anna Ferri. Anna Ferri - Fabric Art will open on Jan 7 and continue through Feb. 28, 2005.

Over the past thirty years, Ferri has created more than 700 works in appliqué. These tapestry-like collages of fabric bring together abstract and figurative elements. The pieces in the exhibition feature design motifs that refer directly to the art of ancient Egypt and Archaic Greece and include patterns that echo those of African and oriental fabrics.

Ferri says that she is "fascinated with the potential for creative expression in fabrics." She skillfully combines pieces of cloth to develop images of both tremendous depth and sensual surface. Working with satin, taffeta, and other textiles, she seeks to combine these varied elements "to create a balance in an artistic rendering." The resulting works seduce the eye with color, texture, line, and pattern.

A native of Britain, Ferri has studied art in both the Far East and Italy. She has exhibited her work for more than two decades. Ferri is the recipient of several awards, and she created the banner for the 1996 International Womenís Conference in Beijing. She also has created work for the collections of GE Capital; Tufts University; hotels in Florida, Nevada, New Jersey, and Turkey; and numerous religious and medical institutions. Anna Ferri - Fabric Art will be her first exhibition at Nina Liu and Friends.
