South Carolina Watermedia Society Hosts Statewide Regional Gatherings
The South Carolina Watermedia Society (SCWS) will host its annual Regional Gatherings with programs in 12 cities throughout the state including Aiken, Anderson Beaufort, Chapin, Columbia, Florence, Greenville, Georgetown, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, North Augusta and Rock Hill. Terminix Services of Columbia is the sponsor of this statewide event. SCWS members, artists (non-members), art patrons and the general public are invited to attend, free of charge.
The SCWS Regional Gatherings not only provide an educational program but also offer an opportunity for artists and art patrons to get together on a local level, share expertise, network with fellow artists, exchange ideas, get some artistic feedback ... and just visit with some friends.
The program topics vary per site and include lectures and demonstrations about figure, floral, landscape and abstract painting. Some sites will conduct critiques and artists are asked to bring 1 to 2 paintings to share with the group.
Kim Richards, SCWS Director said, "Please don't be shy about sharing your work in a group setting. It's a valuable learning experience for all and an opportunity to understand what jurors are looking for. Critiques have been a long held tradition to help artists develop their work."
SCWS membership is open to all South Carolina residents or property owners. Dues are $25 annually.
The "SCWS 31st Annual Exhibition" will be held Oct. 25 to Dec. 31, 2008, at the Franklins G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum, Myrtle Beach, SC. In addition, there will be an exhibit at Brookgreen Gardens in Pawley's Island, SC. The prospectus will be available in May and entries via digital image are due by Aug. 10, 2008. Other programs include a workshop by the juror, Mark Mehaffey, "Design, Color and Experiments in the Landscape," during Oct. 13 - 17, 2008 at Litchfield Beach Resort. The workshop fee is $385 and registration is now open.
