January Issue 2009

Art Walk Spartanburg Takes Place Jan. 15, 2009, in Downtown Spartanburg, SC

Art Walk Spartanburg returns on Jan. 15, 2009, from 5 to 9pm in a new opportunity to explore the many art resources in downtown Spartanburg, SC. Visitors should look for the trolley signs for assistance in roaming between several art venues.

In addition to Myst Gallery at 154 West Main St. and Crescent Gallery, at 172 E. Main St., there will be additional storefronts open with special art walk exhibitions.

Carolina Gallery will be open from 6:30 to 9pm featuring the work of Isabel Forbes, whose work depicts everyday scenes from life.

Stephen Stinson, art photographer, and Ed Emory of Carolina Gallery are collaboratively producing a collection of photographs that feature portraits of important local artists. Each Art Walk showcases additional photographs in the space next door to Crescent Gallery.

At Gallery 155, on the corner of Broad and Liberty, selections from a local collection will be featured.

On exhibit in the portico of the David Reid Theater at the Chapman Cultural Center, are 4 sculptures that are part of the Brookgreen Gardens Upstate SculpTour. The lobby of the theater will also be open so visitors can see 4 additional sculptures from the tour. Phifer Hall at Converse College and the Sandor Teszler Library at Wofford College will also be open, showing more sculptures from this tour.

The Art Museum is showing Paws & Reflect, featuring artwork by leading artists whose focus is canines. Also in the museum, the Artists Guild Gallery exhibits works by Linda Hudgins.

Several local retail merchants are participating by extending their hours for the evening.
Art Walk Spartanburg returns every third Thursday of the month with all venues open to the public.
