Pottery Center in Seagrove, NC, Presents NC Pottery Exhibition

The North Carolina Pottery Center in Seagrove, NC, is presenting a traveling exhibition entitled, North Carolina Clay: Past and Present, on view through Dec. 31, 2001.

The exhibition celebrates the state's renowned historic and contemporary potters. Here is a special opportunity to appreciate the rich history, heritage and ongoing tradition of pottery making across North Carolina.

A special attraction of this group of work is the interesting combination of the older, more vernacular clay pieces with the wide-ranging, contemporary ceramic work. Often the new work draws strength from the traditions of the past. North carolina can be proud of its strong, unbroken tradition of producing high quality pottery. The state's unique position as a ceramic center shines through in this exhibition.

The exhibition consists of approximately sixty works of clay in a diverse range of styles. Three recognized curators have combined their expertise to jury the show. Charlotte Brown and Andrew Glasgow served as curators of the contemporary pottery and Terry Zug curated the selection of historical pottery.

North Carolina Clay: Past and Present opened originally, with much interest, in Charlotte, NC, at Bank of America's Founder's Hall. After its run in Seagrove, the show will travel throughout the state making stops at the St. John's Art Museum in Wilmington, NC; the Gallery of Art & Design at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC; and the Hickory Museum of Art in Hickory, NC.
