Carol Saunders Gallery in Columbia, SC, Hosts Works by Heidi Darr-Hope

An exhibition of new work by Heidi Darr-Hope, entitled Night Visions, is on view at the Carol Saunders Gallery in Columbia, SC through Nov. 16, 2002.

The artworks in "Night Visions are mixed media collages, inspired by the dream. For over ten years, Darr-Hope has been recording her nighttime dreams. These nocturnal visions have been the impetus for her creative expression in the work, and reveal the intricate balance between inner and outer experiences. The works are created within the Mexican "retablos tradition. A "retablos is a small votive painting created from memory, in honor and in thanks of a miraculous event. "Such is the dream," states Darr-Hope. In speaking about the content of these works, Darr-Hope says, "Though dream work is a very personal, I feel it transcends into a larger commonality of human experience."

It is this belief that led her to establish a workshop series, Circle of Dreams, where participants explore their nighttime images through the creative process. In addition, she is well known for her "Healing Icons, a series of artworks of her own and her students from the "Healing Icons workshop series, developed for individuals living with life threatening illnesses. In both of these series, she introduces the creative process as language of the soul and a tool for self discovery.

Darr-Hope received a Master's of Fine Arts from the University of South Carolina and continues postgraduate work in dream analysis, ancient mystical symbology and art as medicine. Most recently she traveled to Zurich, Switzerland to study at the C.G. Jung Institute. She has exhibited her artwork nationally and internationally and has work included in numerous private and corporate collections, including Coca Cola USA, HBO and Bell Communications. This will be her third solo exhibition at Carol Saunders Gallery.
