Francis Marion University in Florence, SC, Freatures New Exhibitions

Paintings by Lynne Burgess and sculptural and ceramic forms by Elizabeth Keller will be on display at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC, as part of FMU's Art Gallery Series, in the Hyman Fine Arts Center through Nov. 20, 2002.

The exhibit of paintings by Burgess is titled Crossings. She is an American who was born in Wurtzburg, Germany. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Coastal Carolina University and operates the Lynne Burgess Studio in Columbia, SC.

"I am moved by the shape and the concept of the cross," said Burgess. "I am drawn to its form and proportions. For me, the cross carries a strong emotional charge of significant order."

Keller's exhibit is titled Narrations of Change. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology from the University of Massachusetts, a Bachelor of Arts degree in studio art from Furman University, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in ceramics from Clemson University. She is currently an associate professor at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC.

"The pursuit of a personal iconography of the spiritual journey forms the foundation of my sculptural work," said Keller. "These images center around specific themes and symbols that incorporate both figurative and architectural elements as well as allusions to the imagery of flight as metaphorical expressions of a spiritual longing to know God."
