City Gallery in Charleston, SC, Presents Works by Seth Gadsden

City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, will present an exhibit of oil on paper by Charleston artist, Seth Gadsden, Nov. 4 through Dec. 3, 2004, entitled Seth Gadsden: Recent Work.

Gadsden was born in Clover, SC, in 1981. He received his BA in Studio Art from the College of Charleston in 2003. Gadsden has been active in the arts community in Charleston for over four years now. He was a founding member of the Redux Contemporary Art Center and continues to help its development as the current- President. Gadsden also works as a general technician for the College of Charleston. And thankfully, there are hopeful plans for graduate school in 2005.

Gadsden comments on his work: "I feel that this body of work is the culmination of a fascination with hands and feet that I began to develop while I was a student at the College of Charleston. The studies have begun to push the painting process out of direct representation and into a realm of uncertainty for me. For the first time, I have really been able to respond to my influences from the twentieth century and the masters of the old, in not only terms of a compositional approach, but also a conceptional approach. I can only hope that this body of work translates a trace of my process over the past year."

The City Gallery, established by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in 1978, is located in the historic Dock Street Theatre. The City Gallery's mission is to exhibit the work of visual artists from the tri-county area, especially those engaged in serious contemporary and experimental work.
