The Arts Center in Hendersonville, NC, Presents National Association Of Women Artists Exhibition

The Arts Center in Hendersonville, NC, is thrilled to be hosting the National Association of Women Artists traveling exhibition in the Sam Neill Gallery from Nov. 5 - 28, 2004. The mediums included in this exhibit are: oil, watercolor, and acrylics on canvas or paper; collages, print making, computer design, photography, sculpture, and three dimensional assemblages.

The juried exhibit features more than one hundred pieces, created by ninety plus artists. The exhibit is coordinated by the Western Arts Agencies of North Carolina in cooperation with the National Association of Women Artists. The exhibit was curated by Nancy Gaucher-Thomas on behalf of the artists of the Association.

The National Association of Women Artists, founded in 1889, is the oldest professional women's art association in the country. NAWA is a member supported, not-for-profit organization. The mission of the organization is to promote women artists with the goal of attaining full recognition of the scope of their achievements. The Association provides a forum for women artists to share ideas and to exhibit their work. Through its exhibitions, programs, and archive NAWA fosters awareness of the monumental contributions of women to the history of American art.

Based in New York City, the National Association of Women Artists is a source of culture and education through its traveling exhibitions, its permanent museum collection, its historical archive, and the educational programs available to its members and its public. The organization's history features noted women artists whose lives and art making are testimonials to the quality and durability of 115 years of women's art in America. Presently the group has over 850 members, many of whom are represented in museums as well as private and public collections. The artists in this exhibition represent women from a cross-section of communities across the United States.

Artists included in this exhibition hail from across the country. The work is both imaginative and vibrant. The public will be challenged by some of the pieces, which evoke a number of responses to the high quality work, which has been included in this particular exhibition. More than 800 artists submitted slides for inclusion in this exhibition, but about one hundred were selected for inclusion in the exhibit.

"We are fortunate to have this high caliber exhibition in our gallery," stated Tim Morrissey The Arts Center's Executive Director. "We are pleased to collaborate with other members of the Western Arts Agencies to provide this unique opportunity for the citizens of our county and beyond. The exhibit is huge and features a wide variety of mediums that include something for everyone! The diversity of the exhibit is breath-taking, and I feel that visitors will be pleased that they have made the effort to enjoy this exhibition. Most of the pieces are available for purchase. We are appreciative of the National Association of Women Artists and the Western Arts Agencies of North Carolina for making this opportunity available to us."

The Arts Center is pleased that it was chosen as a site for this national traveling exhibition of quality work.
