Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Brian Rutenberg

The Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Where Waters Rest: New Paintings of the South Carolina Lowcountry, featuring works by Brian Ruterberg. The exhibit will be on view through Nov. 27, 2004.

Jerald Melberg Gallery welcomes South Carolinian Brian Rutenberg once again for his second solo exhibition of oil paintings and works on paper. One look at his lush, abstract landscapes and the viewer immediately understands Rutenberg's love of paint. Possessing an atmosphere that is both representational and fantastic, the work reflects the artist's southern coastal background and extensive travels to national forests in Canada and the Irish countryside.

In the spring 2004 issue of the College of Charleston magazine (Rutenberg is an '87 graduate), Rutenberg was featured in an article on successful artist alumni. Columnist Katie Lee writes, "The palette of reds, purples and aquamarines that Rutenberg uses in his paintings are both majestic and vibrant. His understanding of color and form gives him the freedom to cross the borders between abstraction and landscape, while still creating a referential composition."
