Dog Art Dealer in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Barrie Barnett

Dog Art Dealer in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibition, Pastels: A Classic Medium Revitalized, featuring works by Barrie Barnett. The exhibit will be on view from Nov. 4 through Dec. 3, 2005.

Barnett began her formal training at only nine years of age. She became known through her paintings of people, but it was her love of animals that brought her back to her passion of painting dogs 15 years later. "The physical variety (of dogs)," Barnett says "is wonderful. You can never get bored."

"Pastels are great for getting that sheen on dog's fur; in part because the individual pastel particles sit on the surface of the paper; reflecting light," Barnett explains, showing why she believes that the quality of pastel to be greater than that of other mediums. "You don't have to mix each color. You see a color you want to put down, reach for it, apply it, and move on." When protected by glass, pastel is also the most permanent of all media. Unlike oils, paints and pencils, pastels are less prone to cracking, yellowing, or darkening of the original color.

Barnett's pastels provide a luminous and sensual depiction of one's dog. Awarded signature membership in the Pastel Society of America and the American Society of Portrait Artists, Barnett has been described by collectors, gallery owners, and critics alike as "one of the most gifted dog painters of our day." Her unique and refreshing use of a classic medium, as well as her exquisite artistic talent and years of experience, allow her to create breathtakingly memorable portraits of dogs of all breeds, ages, shapes and sizes.

Dog Art Dealer is a specialized source for paintings by regionally, nationally and internationally known American 21st Century artists who specialize in dog portraiture. Working as a liaison for clientele and artists from across the country, the gallery represents only top quality artists capable of creating magnificent works in a variety of client-tailored styles. "The addition of Barrie Barnett will bring a more diverse feel to the gallery," says owner Jaynie Spector. "She has a level of talent and passion for painting that is all her own. Her work in pastels is truly astounding and she brings with her a completely different style and medium."
