Richard James Galleries in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Peter Pettegrew and Virginia (V) Vaughan

The Richard James Galleries in historic downtown Charleston, SC, is presenting the exhibition, Plein Air Duo, featuring works by Peter Pettegrew and Virginia (V) Vaughan, on view from Nov. 4 through Dec. 2, 2005.

Pettegrew, best known for his captivating impressionistic landscapes, uses delicate tones, subtle luminous lighting, and savory blends of color to convey South Carolina and Northern Florida's low country. Collectors anxiously await each new painting. The huge demand for Pettegrew's work is gratifying for the artist, by providing him the means to give back to the natural world. He acts on his commitment to Promote, Preserve, and Protect the environment through his art.

"I think we all need a greater sensitivity of our natural surroundings and what I fully experience when on location is what I spiritually need to paint," says Pettegrew. "My hope is that this emotion is fully communicated, not just in the traditional sense, but rather a message of the mystery and joy in how nature really feels. Through painting, I share my love of nature with others and hopefully help to preserve her beauty."

Nationally known Virginia (V) Vaughan, a plein air artist at heart, joins Pettegrew for her first time showcasing in South Carolina. She creates landscapes that are rich in color and shadow and often finds herself venturing into painting portraits of dogs, horses and other creatures that she finds interesting. Her originals are lyrical and rich in form and rhythm. "Being an artist is being a communicator, and I pray my work will speak encouragement to the viewer and that it will be enjoyed,"states Vaughan. Her artwork is highly collected throughout the United States.
