Red Clover Gallery in Landrum, SC, Offers Works by Kelly Welch & Linda Cheek

The Red Clover Gallery in Landrum, SC, is pleased to announce its next show featuring works by Kelly Welch and Linda Cheek, on view from Nov. 10 through Dec. 15, 2006. The Red Clover Gallery is dedicated to presenting the work of outstanding fine artists from the Upstate, the Blue Ridge and beyond. These artists are no exception to this rule.

Kelly Welch was born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains and currently resides in Fletcher, NC. Her approach to art is a blend of Classical Realism and Impressionism working in both oils and pastels. Welch's love of the land shows in her passionate and atmospheric depictions of rural life in the mountains. Her greatest pleasure and challenge is working from life whenever possible.

"Painting is for me something like joy, a desire for something fantastic and eternal, which I have not yet seen, yet my spirit testifies is true," said Welch.

Welch studied engineering in college until her artistic yearning finally won out. She has been recognized as a "Signature Member" of the Western North Carolina Plein Aire Painters in 2004, and has won many awards such as "Best of Show-2D Art" from the Montford Arts Festival. Welch has shown at Spartanburg County Art Museum, The Wickwire Gallery, Hendersonville County Arts Council, Germantown Gallery, and the Blue Ridge College just to name a few.

Linda Cheek is a plein-aire painter working on locations in the Southern Highlands of the Appalachian Mountains, the Smokey Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. She works in both oils and pastels as well. Cheek's approach is an unusual mix of realistic and impressionistic styles. Receiving a formal education at the Ringling School of Art, she gained a background in illustration allowing a spontaneous feel to her otherwise disciplined image.

"Anything under the sun is beautiful if you have the vision; it is the seeing of the thing that makes it so," says Cheek. "Today, more than ever, the world needs people with vision; artists who can express the beauty they see. Whenever possible, I prefer to paint on the spot because I feel the mood of the place and my reaction to the surroundings are of vital importance to the production of a good painting."

Cheek has work in the permanent collection of the Salmagundi Club, New York, where she has twice won the prestigious George Gray Award. She also has been recognized as a "Signature Member" of the Western North Carolina Plein Aire Painters. Cheek's work has been shown in auction rooms with Ken Farmer Auctions of Virginia and Skinner's in Boston. She is listed in Who's Who in American Art, and other biographical references.
