November Issue 2006

Southern Arts Society in Kings Mountain, NC

The Southern Arts Society in Kings Mountain, NC, will present an exhibit of works of the late A.B. Mauney Snow (1924-2003), on display at the Kings Mountain Art Center beginning Nov. 19 and continuing through Jan. 7, 2007. The exhibit and sale of her work will coincide with the Southern Arts Society's 2007 calendar sale and the member's art exhibit and sale.

A. B. Mauney Snow was a leader in founding the Southern Arts Society based in Kings Mountain. She was a prolific artist and worked in a variety of media and styles.

For twenty-two years Southern Arts Society members have designed and hand silk screened a unique calendar to support college scholarships in the visual arts and their programs at the Kings Mountain Art Center.

The Southern Arts Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1984. The Society is located in the Kings Mountain Art Center - formerly the Southern Railway Depot, for four years now, after making extensive renovations to the building. Over the past year we have continued to grow our workshops, children's classes and ongoing art exhibits. While based in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, our membership extends throughout the Carolinas and beyond.

The group's main fundraising is from the sale of hand silk-screened calendars created by members. A portion of this money is used for college scholarships in the visual arts field. Over the years we have provided over $72,000 in scholarship money for Cleveland County students. The balance of our funds is used to operate the Kings Mountain Art Center.

For further information check our NC Institutional Gallery listings or call the Center at 704/739-5585 or 704/739-2056.
