Mark's Gallery & Workshop in Charlotte, NC, Features Exhibition by Sharon Dowell

Mark's Gallery & Workshop in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Urbanworks, featuring paintings by Sharon Dowell, on view from Nov. 16 through Dec. 29, 2007.

Dowell attempts to bring beauty to that which we may overlook in the daily grind of urban life. Each painting is a document of - urban decay, connections that are constantly built and severed, the incessant energy of a bustling city, a memory. She does not view her work as stark images or objects, but as an amalgamation of hues and shapes that may change at any second, mimicking life itself. Dowell incorporates glazing and textured layers into her compositions, creating complex sensations.

Dowell has exhibited in the Southeast, Los Angeles, and New York City, including The Society of Illustrators Museum, The Tampa Museum of Art, and The A.I.R. Gallery in Chelsea. She earned her BFA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is Associate Director and is represented at Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte. Dowell also independently curates, most recently for the Iredell Museums in Statesville, NC. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Federal Reserve Bank. And, Creative Loafing newspaper named Dowell Best New Artist of 2007.
