November Issue 2008

Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Hilarie Lambert and Curt Butler

Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Vantage Point, featuring fine oil paintings by Charleston, SC, artist, Hilarie Lambert and Charlotte area painter, Curt Butler. The exhibition will be on view through Nov. 30, 2008.

This will be the first exhibition at Providence Gallery for both artists. Lambert has been noted for her ala prima style of painting. The thick application of paint, applied quickly, while the canvas is still wet, lends itself well to her love of painting en plein air. Her subject matter is diverse; a frequent traveler, Lambert pulls inspiration from her personal experience and observations of a wide array of people, places and cultures. The artist's skilled use of definition can be traced back to a lifelong love of drawing.

A member of The Oil Painters of America, The National Association for Women Artists and The Portrait Society of America, Lambert has received recognition from peers and critics alike, having had her work published in leading arts journals and winning numerous prestigious competitions.

Strong brushstroke is also a key element in the painting process for fellow artist, Curt Butler. His bold palette and careful juxtaposition of soft and sharp edges effectively lead the viewer's eye through the composition, allowing him to create atmospheric compositions, full of mood and energy.

Butler describes himself as an, "explorer...seeking out those places others have seen, but perhaps never truly observed." In his role of artist/explorer, he travels across North Carolina, painting landscape and seascape works capturing the natural beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, the Piedmont and the Carolina coast.

Butler's recent awards include, 1st place, Festival in the Park, Charlotte and Honorable Mention and Merit Awards at the Natural View exhibit in Gastonia, NC. His work has been exhibited at Gem of Ashley, Dallas Art Museum and Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
