Arts Center in Lexington, NC, Presents Two Holiday Markets

Beginning Dec. 4, Arts United for Davidson County and Uptown Lexington, Inc. will be collaborating to present the Holiday Marketplace and The Blooming Artists Market. The week-long Holiday Marketplace will offer the community the opportunity to view and buy wonderful hand-crafted items from local and regional artists. Pottery, jewelry, original paintings, serigraphs, sculptures and wood turnings are just some items that will be available for purchase. The event will be held at the Arts Center, located in the historic post office building at the corner of Third Avenue and South Main Street in Lexington, NC.

The Arts Center which opens at 10am, will be extending normal business hours to be open to 7pm on Dec. 4, and to 6pm on Dec. 5&6. The Holiday Marketplace at the Arts Center will be open until 9pm on Dec. 8, during Uptown Lexington's Night of Downhome Christmas Shopping. Entertainment at the Arts Center on Friday evening will be provided by local musician and Arts United staff member Ken Davis. The Holiday Marketplace will continue through December 8, culminating in the Third Annual Blooming Artists Market.

The Blooming Artists Market is a unique celebration of the arts held on Dec. 8, from 10am-3pm. In addition to their own gift items, nearly twenty businesses in Uptown Lexington will be showcasing the work of specific artists from the Holiday Marketplace. The artists located in the various businesses will be demonstrating their creative techniques throughout the day. The Arts Center will serve as the central sales area for all participating artists and will offer free gift-wrapping for all purchases. Maps will be available during the festival, indicating participating businesses and the artists that will be present at each location. Demonstrations include wire-wrapped jewelry, spinning fleece into yarn for weaving, pottery, woodcarving, wood turnings, pastels, serigraphy (screenprinting), caricatures, children's portrait painting, hand-poured candles, dancing dolls (carving and puppetry), oil painting, watercolor painting, sculpture, quilting, and silhouette cutting.

All proceeds from the Holiday Marketplace will benefit the artists and programs of Arts United for Davidson County.
