December Issue 2006

Elder Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Russian Art

Elder Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Young Russian Masters, its fourth exhibition of Russian paintings, on view from Dec. 1 - 30, 2006. Eight contemporary artists have been selected to present paintings which reflect life in their native country. The result is a magnificent collection which incorporates the traditional painting style of the Russian impressionists as well as some with a very contemporary feel.

"Our past exhibitions have focused on Russian and Soviet paintings which were created from 1940 through the 1980s," says Larry Elder. "Our 2006 exhibition features eight artists whom we feel embody the best of classical Russian realism and impressionism." A number of the featured artists can trace their lineage back to some of Russia's most notable teachers and painters and consider it their responsibility to preserve the classical tradition of Russian painting.

Elder Gallery's exhibition will include a painting by the following artists: Yana Golubyatnikova, Aleksei Kamenev, Alexander Kremer, Renat Ramazanov, Ivan Vityuk, Ekaterina Morgun, Tatyana Mensenseva and Vladimir Kozhevnikov.

Yana Golubyatnikova is an exciting young artist who paints a classic genre with high energy and creative nerve. Her paintings offer a challenge to the viewer since she paints familiar subject matter with a style which includes elements of abstraction as well as impressionism. She takes her Ukrainian art heritage of broad brushwork and daring color to a new level.

Renat Ramazanov is a twenty-eight year old artist who is a graduate of the Crimean Art College in Ukraine. He is close friends with and often paints with Yana Golubyatnikova. He lives and works in Yalta on the Black Sea and often paints his wife and her sisters in scenes around their town.

Another contemporary artist, Alexander Kremer, is a third generation classical painter from St. Petersburg. His paintings, like many of the artists before him, capture the beauty of the Russian landscape in a traditional style.
