Red Clover Gallery in Landrum, SC, Features Works by William and Anne Jameson

The Red Clover Gallery in Landrum, SC, in conjunction with Irene Morrah, a Greenville, SC, Fine Art Dealer,  is pleased to announce its next show with William Jameson and Anne Jameson, on view from Dec. 8 through January 31, 2007.

William and his wife Anne divide their time between Saluda, NC, and Mt. Pleasant, SC. William was born in Honea Path, SC, and credits his upbringing surrounded by the history and natural beauty of South Carolina with inspiring him to become an artist. After studying at the Ringling School of Art, he continued his studies while teaching landscape painting and life drawing as a graduate assistant at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico.

William's passion for history and nature allow him to create introspective landscapes embodying the full range of local color and timeless contrasts. Rejecting the term "scene" in reference to these works, William defines his landscapes as "explorations". Incorporating heavy applications of paint with strong, energetic brushstrokes, he creates an amazing sense of movement.

William's unusual compositions draw the viewers eye across all areas of the canvas and then back again. This talent he has for movement in his application of paint and composition actually draws the observer into the artwork and allows the audience to feel a personal connection to his paintings. William continues to seek new ways to reach his ultimate goal, continuing to engage his viewer in thoughtful contemplation with paintings that interpret each location's unique aesthetic quality while translating the mood and atmosphere of a particular moment in time. "The more I paint, the more I must paint. The need to is never diminished by having completed a painting, but rather there's an immediate need to begin another," says William.

Anne Jameson has been drawn to the architecture and daily activity of the charming towns and villages that dot the landscapes of Italy, France and San Miguel de Allende. "I enjoy the architectural subjects particularly for the graphic design aspects of a composition and for the wonderful color and opportunities for some interesting plays of light and shadow which can provide some drama or mystery to a painting."

Anne also lived for 20 years in Charleston, SC. She was involved with the Historic Charleston Foundation as a volunteer and that seems to have added to her tendency towards structural imagery. "It is difficult to say that I paint just architecture because it is impossible to separate the buildings from their streets. The daily activity: intimate conversations on a side-walk, market day with the vendors and their brightly colored displays, or a dog asleep against a building during the town's siesta hour can often become the 'subject' of my architectural paintings," says Anne. Her recent move to Western North Carolina has prompted her to explore its numerous and charming towns.

The Red Clover Gallery is dedicated to presenting the work of outstanding fine artists from the Upstate, the Blue Ridge and beyond. These artists are no exception to this rule.
