Charleston Artist Guild in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Deborah Meyer

Charleston Artist Guild will present the exhibit, AS GOD SPEAKS, featuring works by Deborah Meyer at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery in Charleston, SC, from Dec. 1 - 30, 2007.

Meyer's exhibit will present a series of breathtaking skyscapes, Psalm 19:1 series, the heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of his hands. "The work of my hands will never be adequate to capture the exquisite majesty I see from God's hands. But it surely is fun to try!," says Meyer.

Life for Meyer was never so vibrant and loud as in the classroom; teaching art to grades K-8 at a local private school. She found herself retreating to the symphonic panoramas that were evolving nightly over the river near her home. There, Meyer would catch her breath and inspiration as she watched brilliant colors crescendo into quiet dusk; another day was passing. Meyer's fascination with the sky evolved, as she wanted to capture and hold these peace filled moments. First she used a camera, but couldn't feel the air or the breeze, then pastels but the subtlety of the colors and nuances of light eluded her, finally oils became her medium of choice and so the challenge began.

Work #4 in the Psalm 19:1 series speaks of the majesty and power of nature. As warm light moulded towering thunderhead, Meyer watched as they traverse the violet skies above her. Fire seemingly blazed from within them to declare a fitting denouement to another glorious day! It is the promise of joy to come; "The skies declare the glory of God" and Meyer reflected thankfully upon the day that had been and the day to come. Here there is peace and the time to listen, "AS GOD SPEAKS."

In college, fine art captured Meyer, but sculpture was her first love; "to this day my fingers still try to reach into my paintings to mould the space." After graduating with a BA in Fine Art, Meyer worked in the world of architectural design, until a foray into the intrigues of fashion design took her to New York City and Paris with a mission to become the next great designer name, but love interrupted and Meyer found herself in the Lowcountry. "Though the Lowcountry has been home for over 20 years it continues to amaze me; it's so very different from the frenetic city life of Toronto where I was raised."

Come see the glorious proclamations of His handiwork. It may inspire you or at least you might rest for a while!
