Greenville Technical College in Greer, SC, Offers Works by Michael Brodeur

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at the Greer campus of Greenville Technical College in Greer, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Michael Brodeur: Of Cubic Proportions, featuring small-scale oil paintings and metal point drawings by Michael Brodeur, on view through Jan. 4, 2011.

The exhibition is comprised of individual images that meticulously explore a consistent thematic: depictions of small wooden-block forms in minimal environments. These works clearly evidence an interest in compositional structure and color relationships. While mathematics and geometry give rise to innumerable permutations, Brodeur skillfully and subtly reminds the viewer that ultimately these works are about more than a studious application of formal qualities.

Titles such as Siblings and He Was a Friend of Mine allude to and personify the human condition, quietly transcending formal concerns to provide compelling metaphors for a gamut of human relationships and situations drawing us closer to examine their possible meanings.
