Hodges Taylor Art Consultancy in Charlotte, NC, Features Randy Shull

Hodges Taylor in Charlotte, NC, is an art consultancy firm with a private gallery devoted to showing and promoting works by exceptional southeastern artists, and to offering stimulating programs in cooperation with artists and cultural groups.  On view in the gallery space from Dec. 1 - 31, 2011, is the work of North Carolina artist, Randy Shull.

Shull is a full time studio artist who works in a variety of mediums and spans furniture design, architecture, landscape design, and painting. Widely known for his innovative use of color, shape and materials, his paintings are a reflection of his unique approach to his material and a creative combination of design elements. Frequently, Shull’s color work is counterbalanced with pieces using only black and white, highlighting the importance of depth of field in his work. Energetic brush work lends a tactile quality, one that draws the viewer right into the surface.

Shull’s work in included in a number of important museum collections including The Brooklyn Museum; The High Museum in Atlanta, GA; The Renwick Museum of American Art in Washington, DC; The Mint Museum of Craft + Design in Charlotte; Racine Museum of Art; The Gregg Museum of Art & Design, and Museum of Art and Design in New York. In 2008 and 2009, Shull’s work was the subject of a twenty-year retrospective that opened at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design at NC State, and traveled to the San Francisco Museum of Craft & Design as well as The Belleview Art Museum and The Ogden Museum of Southern Art.
