Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, Announces a Two-Person Exhibit

Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, announces a two-person exhibit for artists Will Dexter and Steve Wolf on view through Mar. 24. Hand-crafted glass sculpture by nationally noted glass artist Will Dexter and new abstract paintings on canvas and paper by Steve Wolf will be featured in the South Gallery.

Using a variety of traditional and modern glass techniques, Dexter crafts elegant one-of-a-kind large-scale glass sculpture. Each piece is a detailed expression of color, form and the beauty of material itself. The hand and vision of glass artist Dexter is evident in each work.

Dexter is an American Master. His work has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and the world. He received his M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design, and his B.F.A. from the Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, PA.

His work has been exhibited in one-person and group exhibits across the country including ones at the Louisville, Kentucky Art Museum, Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC; Museum of the State of Rhode Island, Providence, Rhode Island; and numerous others.

Dexter has been represented by Somerhill Gallery for 11 years, this is his second South Gallery feature exhibit.

Steve Wolf's abstract, paintings explore frequently discernable, recognizable subjects in rich, deep, palettes. With strong contrast and energetic application of paint, he often captures the essential elements of figurative subjects through abstract techniques.

Wolf is a resident of Virginia and received his M.F.A. and M.A. from West Virginia State University. He has exhibited in numerous one-person and group exhibits throughout the United States. These include, the Juried Exhibition: Artists of Virginia, 1997, '96, and '92, at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center, Newport News, VA; two American Drawing Biennial Exhibits (1996, 1992), at the Muscarelle Museum of Art, College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA; and Reaching Across Our Borders, at the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, Virginia Beach, VA, 1996. Previously at Somerhill Gallery, Wolf has been a participant in numerous group exhibits. This is his first South Gallery feature exhibit.

Works by Wolf are included in the collections of the Ethyl Corporation, Richmond, VA; Phillip Morris Corporation, Richmond, Virginia; the West Virginia Arts and Humanities Collection, Charleston, West Virginia, to name a few.
