New Art Featured at Touchstone Gallery in Hendersonville, NC

What better way to welcome the New Year than by taking in the delightful creativity of area artists and Touchstone Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, is featuring a dozen new paintings from three gallery favorites.

Ernie Howard of Asheville, NC, offers a look back and to the future in the two canvasses now on display. In Holy Land, he continues to explore themes based on the Dalai Lamas teachings that inspired earlier works such as Ancient Message and Gateway. Holy Land illustrates the deep spiritual connections between Tibetan beliefs and those of the Native American Hopi tradition.

Blessing at Medicine Ridge is the first in a new series of works by Howard. There is a dramatic shift in palette and technique in this new series ... a reference to southwestern pastels familiar to the artist who has spent much time in that part of the country.

Hendersonville native, Sophia Allison having completed her MEA at the University of Wisconsin - Madison is now teaching at Hastings College in Nebraska. Touchstone is now featuring three of her "grid" paintings of oil and wax on board. One work from this series was recently selected as one of ten finalists in the "Young Painter's Competition" offered by the University of Miami in Oxford, OH. The ten finalists from a competition of over 200 artists will be juried by the Director of the Hirshorn Museum for cash awards as well as possible purchase for the University's permanent collection.

Landscapes by Greenville, SC, artist, Henry Mitchell, are back by popular demand as well as two new portrait works. Three of the landscapes offer a departure from Mitchell's usual treatment in that these are acrylic on paper instead of wood, and all three explore different aspects of the same barn. Two smaller works on wood return to his favorite locales.. .the edge of the Great lakes in Ohio and the hillsides of SC.
