Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, NC, Features Works by Joan Macintyre

Tryon Painters and Sculptors will host an exhibit by Tryon artist Joan Macintyre, at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, in Tryon, NC, on view Feb. 3 - 26, 2002.

An award winning professional artist for over forty years, Joan E. Macintyre has been painting horses, dogs and other animals in a traditional style. Macintyre attended the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Phoenix School of Art and numerous workshops throughout her career.

The Thoroughbred of California, Chronicle of the Horse, Western Horseman, Horse Illustrated and Equine Images have featured articles and covers of Macintyre's paintings. Macintyre is an associate member of the American Academy of Equine Art. Clients include the late George Getty III, Jacqueline Getty, P.K. Wrigley, Howard Koch, Telly Sevalas, and many European and national racing enthusiasts. Her art has represented the Harness Tacks of America Art Show and Auction since 1991. Using the mediums of acrylic and oil the artist puts the viewer at the scene. Macintyre sees every horse and dog as an individual, their personality comes through the portrait. "When I do a portrait it is not just a representation of the subject, but an enjoyable piece of art," says Macintyre.

The show contains formal portraits of horses done in the classical style to more impressionistic scenes of wild turkeys, leopards, poultry, and dogs. Included are some watercolor sketches and several commissioned paintings on loan from local residents.

Macintyre has owned and raced Thoroughbreds, as well as shown Arabs and Staddlebreds. She now drives her Welsh Pony 'Buttons". She and her husband Jerry belong to Green Creek Hounds and Carolina Hounds.
