Triangle Area Women Receive Top Awards in the Women's Center's 19 Annual Art Show Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands

In Chapel Hill, NC, Ten Triangle area women earned top awards, along with three other North Carolina women artists, in The Women's Center's 19th annual art show Through Women's Eyes By Women's Hands. Their pieces, as well as 135 others, will be shown at the art exhibit February 21-28, 2003 at the Sheraton Chapel Hill Hotel.

Elvira Butler, Chapel Hill, won The Women's Center's Cover Award, and Jennifer Cash, Raleigh, won The Women's Center's Award for Excellence. Jurors Choice Award winners are Ashley Worley, Raleigh, and Lisa Morton, Rougemont, along with Chapel Hill residents Helen Dallas, Mildred Long, Mary Rountree Moore, and Barbara Seinfeld.

"I was absolutely thrilled to be an award winner," said Moore. I've been a big supporter of the show since its inception, and I'm delighted to be in such good company."

Cathryn Jirlds, Durham, won the NC Sponsors' Award for Outstanding Work, and Jean Oline, Durham, won the Honorary Chair Award.

"I was very surprised and very honored," said Oline, who has had her art exhibited in Through Women's Eyer, By Women's Hands one other year.

Jen Bandini, Ashevilie; Erica Plouffe, Ayden and Devlin McNeil, Charlotte, also won Juror's Choice Awards,

The purpose of Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands is to give women the opportunity to display their artistic talents since they are underrepresented in galleries, museum and shows compared to their male counterparts. It is the largest juried art show for women artists in North Carolina. One-third of the proceeds of each art sale, as well as the proceeds from the events surrounding the art show, will benefit The Women's Center.
