Piazza Gallery Art & Framing in Mt. Pleasant, SC, Features Works by Patricia Carter Gallahorn

Piazza Gallery Art & Framing in Mt. Pleasant, SC, will present original works by Patricia Carter Gallahorn, from Feb. 1 - 28, 2004.

Gallahorn, a Mount Pleasant resident was born in Charleston, SC, and graduated from North Charleston High School and Conedé Business College. "My first formal endeavor into the world of art was as a member of the Cobblestone Quilters' Guild of Charleston. I extended that love of creativity while living in Florence, AL. In 1995, I began taking drawing and charcoal classes at the University of North Alabama. For the next two years, I took watercolor classes from a renowned Alabama artist, Anne McCutchen," says Gallahorn. "In 1998, I returned home to Charleston and joined the Charleston Artists Guild."

For the past five years, Gallahorn's paintings have been shown in several juried exhibitions at the Gaillard Auditorium and the North Charleston Performing Arts Center.

In 2001, Gallahorn, inspired by the work of Susanna Oroyan, began working in polymer clay. Gallahorn makes one-of-a-kind dolls from polymer clay and is a member of the National Polymer Clay Guild. In May 2002, the Crafter's Choice Book Club of New York City chose Gallahorn's doll Lockes to be included in their August "Special Edition" of favorite crafts from favorite books. Gallahorn's dolls were also included in the 2001, 2002, and 2003 juried Palmetto Hands Exhibit at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. In 2003, Nuba and The Warrior dolls were both chosen for the SC State Museum Traveling Show.

Gallahorn says, "I've been a member of the Hat Ladies of Charleston since 2001. I so enjoy my membership that I began a line of pins in the shape of hats and hatboxes. In Spring, 2002, the Hat Ladies of Charleston exhibited my pins and hatboxes as table favors at the "Artful Settings" benefit at the Gibbes Museum of Art. They were also shown in May 2002 at the juried Palmetto Hands Exhibit at the North Charleston Coliseum." In 2002, Gallahorn exhibited her works at the Hat Ladies of Charleston's Art Show and Sale held at the Old City Jail. In December 2003, she was invited to show her works at the Vero Beach, Florida Museum of Art Renaissance Fair.
