Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner, SC, Presents Works by Pat Walsh

Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Reflections, Rising: The Paintings of Pat Walsh, in the Little Gallery at the Abbey, through Apr. 30, 2006. Walsh is a California based artist and is a Professor Emeritus of Painting at the California College of Arts and Crafts. Additionally she serves as a Liturgical Designer and Consultant.

Previously Walsh painted landscapes with strong color and a focus on abstract relationships. Now she has begun to let the colors move freely and guide her brush to create the "shape of the colors."

Walsh comments that "each painting is, for me, a spiritual journey. I try to deal with depth, movement and intensity. These lead me to new interactions and resolutions if I don't try to be too controlling. It's important for me to discover and understand what is and to value the order I'm privileged to unfold."

In addition to Reflections, Rising the Store at Mepkin Abbey will continue its ongoing presentation of handmade crafts as well as books on a wide range of spiritual subjects ranging from the works of Thomas Merton to guides for daily meditation and from writing by 4th century Egyptian monks to interpretations of contemporary theology. The public is encouraged to browse the book shelves while it appreciates the presence of Walsh's art exhibition.
