Spartanburg Artists' Guild in Spartanburg, SC, Features Work by Jo Ann Taylor

The Spartanburg Artists' Guild in Spartanburg, SC, will present the exhibit, Impressions and Beyond, featuring paintings by Jo Ann Taylor, at the Guild Gallery at the Spartanburg Arts Center, from Feb. 3 - 28, 2006.

Taylor, the Easley, SC, artist, who describes herself as "a Virginian by birth and a South Carolinian by choice," is a painter, papermaker, artist and teacher. She attended Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia and has made an extensive study of printmaking, drawing and design.

Taylor is a member of the Plein Air Artists Society and the Spartanburg Artists' Guild and is a signature member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society, an international organization. Her work is included in corporate and private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. Taylor is currently represented by the Sorrells' Gallery in Greer, SC.

"I paint to relive a feeling of the world around me and to put before the viewer my expression of color and light. I photograph to capture mood and atmosphere," the artist explained of her work, noting that she enjoys incorporating natural, used and discarded fibers into her papers. Her acrylic painting entitled Red Bay won Best in Show honors in the 2005 Spartanburg Artists' Guild Annual Juried Exhibition.
