Helena Fox Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Kenn Backhaus and Becky Parrish

Helena Fox Fine Art in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibition, Still Life & The Allure of Nature, featuring works by nationally renowned artists Kenn Backhaus and Becky Parrish, on view from Feb. 29 through Mar. 14, 2008. This exhibition showcases paintings that exemplify the unity between man's arrangement of nature's gifts and nature's own arrangements. Two distinctly different artists present their artistic achievements in still life and paintings of nature.

Raised exploring the woods and lakes of Wisconsin, Kenn Backhaus has spent his artistic career depicting the beauty, truth and serenity of nature. Like the famous Scandinavian artists of the 19 Century, Backhaus excites our senses with his innate understanding and rendering of nature's moods, her delicate nuances of light and her fragility.

Backhaus was born in Beaver Dam, WI. He was raised in a farming family that understood the importance of the arts. His family nourished and embraced their son's passion for artistic expression. Backhaus graduated from The Layton School of art in 1973 and spent ten years developing a successful career in Design and Illustration that garnered many national awards. Yet, his passion laid elsewhere. In 1984, he perused his spirit's yearning for the out doors and the paintbrush. Since that time, Backhaus has become nationally recognized for his paintings and is currently featured in the PBS TV series, Plein Air, Painting the Landscape.

Becky Parrish's still lifes are calculated and choreographed compositions of lyrical and colorful harmonies. She dedicated her artistic career to creating subtle compositions using nature's elements.

Parrish burst onto the Washington, DC, art scene in 1996 after receiving an MFA from George Washington University. Her timeless still lifes were recognized for their gentle color harmonies and dynamic compositions. She quickly became the darling of the Virginia art world.

Helena Fox Fine Art specializes in fine contemporary representational art. Established in 2004, the gallery is a compilation of national and international artists, including renowned Southern representational painter, West Fraser. The varied collection of work mingles impressionistic landscapes and streetscapes, plein air travel paintings, realistic still-lifes, trompe l'oeil, with wildlife sculpture and exquisite hand crafted 22K gold jewelry. Representing: Sarah Amos, Kenn Backhaus, Christina Bates, John Budicin, Don Demers, Marie Fox, West Fraser, Billyo O'Donnell, Becky Parrish, Edward Rice, William Woodward, and Kent Ullberg.
