February Issue 2008

Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Arless Day

Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Arless Day: Pursuing the Dream, featuring new collage paintings, on view from Feb. 1 through Mar. 1, 2008.

Day offers the following "This solo exhibition is filled with a number of interior paintings; these are all dominated with art hung on walls. The imagination turns book jackets, maps and magazine covers into framed works of art. Abstracts, still lifes and portrait paintings bring character to the rooms. The overlapping pieces find a home and details begin appearing. Then comes the collaboration of paper and paint that begin to anchor down the collage painting. These are the interior spaces I strive for. It creates a presence to the moment".

"My paintings have always had a dream-like reality. The open space within these interior walls has many possibilities and the challenge is to keep them freshly unique. Places that seem so comfortable, inviting you in, the harmony these objects have with each other create a perspective in which the eyes dance through the collage."
