Charleston County Public Library in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Andrea Hazel

The Charleston County Public Library in downtown Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Uptown in Downtown Charleston, featuring paintings by Andrea Hazel in the Saul Alexander Gallery from Feb. 1 - 28, 2009.

This exhibit consists of a series of watercolor paintings, and focuses on neighborhood people as well as the corner stores and small businesses that are disappearing from the downtown Charleston of her childhood. The artist plans for this to be an ongoing series to reflect her love for her hometown, Charleston, not just the touristy historic districts so often depicted in local art, but the streets where locals live and hang out.

Hazel was born in Charleston where she still resides. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Marymount College, Tarrytown, NY, and a Master of Education in Counseling from The Citadel in Charleston. She is retired from Trident Technical College in North Charleston where she taught mathematics. She recently retired her business Andrea Hazel Photography.

Hazel has been painting in watercolors since 2001, and she is passionate about art. She has studied painting in workshops with artists Charles Parnelle, Mary Whyte, Steve Rogers, Tony Van Hasselt, and Pat Dews. Hazel is an associate member of the South Carolina Watermedia Society and an exhibiting member of the Charleston Artist Guild.
